Chemical Re-polishing |
The chemical repolishing of natural stone floors can be used as the final step in a floor restoration process that begins with mechanical sanding, or offered as a stand-alone maintenace service for floors not requiring full restoration services.
Chemically polishing a stone floor usually first involves cleaning and rinsing the floor, then buffing a chemical polishing compound into the floor using weighted floor machines designed for stone work and nylon polishing pads. The polishing compound reacts with the minerals in the stone floor (in marble, travertine, and limestone floors, with the mineral calcite) to bring out a deeper, richer shine while eliminating acid etch marks and small scratches.
Granite floors require more work to maintain, usually requiring buffing in a special polishing power designed for either light or dark colored granites, then rinsing the floor and buffing it down again using steel wool or cotton floor bonnets.
