Deep Cleaning

When we use the term "deep cleaning," we are referring to a process that we like to use no more than semi-annually, usually annually, to clean extremely dirty stone.

More than routine cleaning, deep cleaning utilizes strong alkaline stone soaps, longer dwell times, more aggressive abrasives (rotary brush heads and/or scrubbing pads), and pressurized water rinses. Strong alkalines can have an adverse effect on natural stone floors and dimensional stone. Over time, they can diminish a polished stone's reflection, prematurely strip out sealers meant to protect the stone, and, if not properly rinsed, leave an alkaline residue in the stone that can contribute to its deterioration.

We recommend deep cleaning when routine string mopping with pH neutral stone soaps create inadequate results. Once The Stone Poets can effectively deep clean a natural stone installation and seal the area with a quality fluro-polymer penetrating sealant, maintenance cleanings, which use much milder pH neutral stone soaps, should be all that's necessary to maintain the integrity of the floor.
